Celebrating the Anglo-Saxon connection

—————————–

A celebration of the twinning with Redcar & Cleveland & Troisdorf occurred on 11th September, held at the Cricket Club in Guisborough, with attendance from the Mayors of both Guisborough & Redcar & Cleveland.

The event was held after members of the group from Germany had spent several days visiting places of interest in our area, whilct staying at other families homes.

The area in Germany has similar industrial heritage to our own, that even though in continuance, evidently suggests hardship over the past twenty years or so.

I chatted with Theo Lettmann, the Chairman of the Troisdorf committee, who told me that the 25th anniversary was held in 2015.

“We have had an excellent visit, seeing your beautiful landscape plus the industrial heartland.  It has all been happiness & joy ending with an evening’s entertainment supplied by our English friends. On our return we will be planning a return visit for our English friends to Germany.”

The Jorvik Museum in York was visited, plus the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough & the Black Sheep brewery in Masham.

Chatting also with the Secretary, Heidi Eick & husband Frank, she mentioned the beginning of the group.”It all started in 1990 & we also have twinning with other countries including France, Greece, Belgium & Turkey. It is always fascinating to meet people from other countries & to share our lives with them. Firm friendships have been made for all of us.”

Future editions will highlight the friendship which has grown betwen the two areas, specifically between our two countries.
